5 Days to Race Day
We’re in the home stretch! Here are our tips for what to do with 5 days to go:
- Start your taper. We love a good taper week! Now is the time to tone down your training so that your body is rested and ready for a great Saturday swim. Enjoy this week as you can feel your hard work paying off!
- Eat well, sleep well. Staying well hydrated and eating good, nutrient rich foods is important ahead of race day. This is also not the time to try any new foods. Similarly, don’t forget to get your beauty sleep — your body needs to be well rested for a big day ahead.
- Visualise the day. From the first wake up call to the busy-ness of the start line to the channel crossing and on to the finish line, it is helpful to visualise how you see the day panning out. Plan some affirmations to have at the ready when things get tough. This simple exercise can help your mind prepare and is just as important as the preparations you’ve done with your body.
- Set up the Port to Pub MapSwim app. More information on the app is provided below, but this is a handy tool for skippers, swimmers, and supporters alike. Download the app and set it up with your relevant details.
- Read the Event Handbook. There is a lot of important (and helpful!) information in the Event Handbook. Go through it carefully to ensure that you understand race procedures, rules, safety information, and more.
IMPORTANT: Please make sure that your skipper’s details, including mobile phone number, are correctly entered on the registration form as SMS notifications go to this mobile on race day. If you have registration updates, including changes to your boat, skipper, and/or swimmers, please send them to us at [email protected].
If you missed them, here are our past checklists:
