General Optimised Swim Routes for 20 March 2021
A team of UWA researchers has combined their expertise in weather conditions, oceanography and sports science to develop the best routes for swimmers in the 2021 Port to Pub based on various start times and swim paces, as well as the predicted conditions.
The routes are coordinates in Lat and Long (decimal co-ordinates) as well as 'south offsets' from each of the rhumb line route markers and are available in .gpx format for uploading into GPS devices. The summaries can be easily printed and laminated for use by the skipper and paddler during the swim.
The paces given are initial pace for swimmer(s) in calm salt water, inclusive of rest / feed breaks. The general routes all assume an average reduction in pace of 1min/km after 10km due to fatigue.
Please choose the map and GPX files that best suit your pace. An interpolation between routes would be fine. The conditions on 20 March are significantly different to those experienced at RCS on 20 February.
