PCHF ambassadors enjoy coaching session with Olympians Chelsea Gubecka and Chantal Liew
Yesterday, Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation ambassadors Noah Hamilton (9) and Charlotte Potts (8) were thrilled to meet open water swimming Olympians Chelsea Gubecka and Chantal Liew for a special coaching session at Leighton Beach. After flying in from Queensland earlier this week, Chelsea and Chantal are set to compete in the 2024 Euroz Hartleys Port to Pub with Hotel Rottnest swim alongside WA superstars Rebekah Weller and 16-year-old young gun Bianca Monaco as part of the Subi Sports Sistas team.
Chelsea, who was the first Australian Olympic Team member selected for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and Chantal, Singapore’s first-ever open water swimming Olympian, are hoping for a record-breaking swim in the 19.7km event tomorrow.
For the second year running, Port to Pub is supporting PCHF as its charity partner. Last year’s event raised more than $30,000 to help PCHF part-fund an innovative ‘movement as medicine’ program for WA kids living with chronic diseases such as cancer, type 1 diabetes, cerebral palsy, juvenile arthritis, post-burn injuries, and cystic fibrosis.
An Aussie-first led by researchers at Perth Children’s Hospital, Move to Improve is evaluating the physical and mental health impacts of physical activity on kids with chronic conditions and their families. Noah, who lives with juvenile arthritis, and Charlotte, who lives with cystic fibrosis, took part in Move to Improve’s surfing sessions, which were rolled out to WA kids impacted by chronic conditions last year.
It’s not too late to get involved! Start fundraising here, or donate to the PCHF Port to Pub team here.
